Tauride Gardens Walk (Self Guided), St. Petersburg
Treat yourself to some quality downtime by visiting the Tauride Gardens. This beautiful green oasis was laid out between 1783 and 1789 on the estate of Grigory Potemkin, allegedly a lover of Catherine the Great. There are ponds, canals and a rolling green landscape, which were designed to closely follow nature.
Since 1866, when the park opened to the public, this has been one of the city's favorite green escapes. Go for long walks along tree-lined avenues then stretch out on the grass. Follow your park visit by touring the surrounding area. Look over the impressive façade of the Tauride Palace which is next to the gardens. Visit the Museum of Water which is housed, appropriately enough in a former water-tower. Through the hi-tech and hands-on exhibits learn about Peter the Great's plans to turn the city into a "Venice of the North".
Additional fascinating insights await at the St. Petersburg Coffee Museum which covers the history of coffee, including its ancient origins. Discover how to be a barista then savor some delicious roasts in the coffee tasting shows. The museum also has its own exclusive blend. Exhibitions and artifacts cover coffee harvesting, processing, roasting and drinking in numerous countries around the world.
