Shopping and Dining on The Walk (Self Guided), Dubai
The Walk is a lively and picturesque waterfront promenade that stretches for little more than a mile (1.7 kilometers). It is situated in front of the Jumeirah Beach Residence, dwarfed by tall white buildings and filled with an attractive array of shops, cafés, supermarkets and restaurants. This was the city’s first outdoor shopping and dining promenade and it is one of its most popular areas.
In addition to exploring the shops, there is the promenade's Covent Garden market, where among other items you can purchase clothing, accessories, handcrafts and sweets. As you progress along the promenade you may be entertained by a variety of street performers, including jugglers and stilt-walkers. During your stroll, keep an eye out for art exhibitions that present the colorful works of artists from the United Arab Emirates.
For refreshments, unwind on the outdoor terrace of a café. Stay for lunch and dinner and be spoilt by the numerous restaurant options offering a global assortment of cuisines. If all that shopping and dining by the water has got you in the mood for a swim, go to the Jumeirah Beach Residence Open Beach. Enjoy a refreshing dip by the sandy expanse, which is in front of the Hilton Dubai Jumeirah and looks over to Palm Jumeirah, the artificial archipelago.

Dubai Downtown Walking Tour
The ultra-modern city of Dubai did not always look the way it does now. For centuries, the city's economy relied heavily on the pearling and fishing industries. The Maktoum family, Dubai's current rulers, took over the reigns in 1883. The discovery of oil in 1966 set the change for a shift away from reliance on the marine industry.
