Scheepvaartkwartier Walk (Self Guided), Rotterdam

Scheepvaartkwartier or Nieuwe Werk is a delightful neighborhood on the banks of the Nieuwe Maas. Much of the area survived bombings by the Luftwaffe during World War II and more than 90 buildings are protected by state conservation laws. There are many reasons to spend some quality downtime exploring the area.

First, there's the water with its gorgeous views and where you can catch sight of seagoing sailboats and yachts. Stroll down broad tree-lined avenues and go over to Veerhaven harbor to look at its historic ships. Then there are the historical buildings, providing fascinating glimpses into Rotterdam's past. The beautiful white historic buildings on the Westerkade are among the finest you will set eyes on during your time in the city. This is also one of the richest parts of the Netherlands, where you can admire luxurious apartment blocks and dine on gourmet treats in fantastic restaurants.

Go for a walk or run or to chill out in Het Park (The Park), a gorgeous green expanse that is the oldest park in Rotterdam. It is also one of its most popular. During the warm summer months, you will see many families and groups of friends holding barbecues here. The park is also where a number of music festivals are held.
