Georgetown Shopping (Self Guided), Washington D.C.

Shop till you drop and fill up your bags with an Aladdin's cave of goodies when you visit the district of Georgetown. This delightful neighborhood in Washington DC boasts an incredible variety of shopping opportunities with dozens of independent fashion stores and designer boutiques, national and international retailers, galleries and specialty and antique stores. And that's just for starters!

Whether you want high end or high street, you are bound to find what you are looking for in Georgetown. Many of the retailers are located in the neighborhood’s elegant 18th century townhouses with the biggest concentration of shops on Wisconsin Avenue and M Street NW, the two main, intersecting streets.

Even if you are not in the mood for shopping, walk the delightful cobblestone streets of this historic part of the United States capital. The area was founded in 1751 along the Potomac River and in addition to the wonderful array of shops, features several historic buildings. They include the Old Stone House, which was built in 1756 and Oak Hill Cemetery Chapel which hails from the middle of the 19th century. As you explore, some streets and buildings may feel familiar to you. That could be because Georgetown has been a backdrop in numerous movies such as True Lies, Minority Report and The Exorcist. At night, take your pick from one of the district’s gourmet restaurants.
