Enge Walking Tour (Self Guided), Zurich

If you want some premier relaxation, make your way to the Enge district, a popular destination for those seeking some serene moments to unwind. The big draws are its lakeside setting and the historical mansions, many with their remaining parks.

A good place to spend some quality downtime is the Rieterpark. This is the largest landscaped garden in the city and encompasses a pond, fountain and beech trees that are more than 150 years old. The park is situated on a hilltop and provides gorgeous views of Lake Zurich and the Glarner Alps. It is adjacent to several other sites of interest, which are all worth visiting. They include the Villa Schönberg and the Rietberg Museum, which displays non-European works of art.

One of the city’s first landscaped gardens was Belvoirpark, which features wide lawns, a pond and an early 19th-century villa. As well as boasting such fantastic scenery, Enge also provides lots of good shopping opportunities. Along the route from the downtown area to Enge train station, there is a diverse range of shops and stores, including the wonderful Migros-Markt. The area is also home to a number of very good restaurants. The reputation of some of these has spread far and wide, and booking your table ahead is highly recommended.
