Coronado Walk (Self Guided), San Diego

Take a short ferry trip or drive across the bridge to Coronado Island, a popular vacation destination just a few minutes from San Diego. Stretch out on the white sandy beaches, play watersports, visit art galleries, go shopping and keep fit outdoors. Coronado is Spanish for "the crowned one" and this resort city is also therefore known as the Crown City.

If you are a sun worshipper, take your pick of the many fabulous beaches. Active types will relish powering through the water in a kayak, boat, waverunner or stand-up paddle board. On land, there are 16 miles (27 kilometers) of coastal biking paths to explore as well as several walking trails. Numerous cultural experiences can also be enjoyed on the island.

Thinking about brightening up your home with some art or photographs? Then buy some locally produced art in one of the many galleries. Pick up insights into the island’s history at the Coronado Museum of History and Art and admire the beauty of the building that is the Hotel del Coronado. This is a wooden Victorian beach resort, the second largest wooden structure in the United States. During your time on the island, visit Centennial Park and the Ferry Landing Marketplace. From these locations you can enjoy close-up views of aircraft carriers as well as superb vistas of the majestic San Diego skyline.
