Chinatown Walk (Self Guided), Sydney

Delight in the color, sounds and oriental culture of Sydney’s Chinatown. Investigate the many shops and markets for a variety of goods, everything from Chinese herbs and spices to clothes and unusual souvenirs. Use your visit as an excuse to try a new culinary experience, by purchasing some exotic ingredients for the kitchen or dining in one of the restaurants. There are so many menu options to try and all are highly affordable. Some visitors say that the Chinese food in this part of the city is the best that you will find outside of Asia. If you're not hungry enough for a full meal, visit one of the bakeries for a delicious snack.

In Haymarket, browse the stalls of Paddy's Market for gadgets, gifts, clothes and food. Go to Kimber Lane for the magnificent work of art by Sydney artist, Jason Wing. This enchanting permanent installation features clouds painted on the walls and road surfaces and overhead spirit figures that light up at night.

Chinatown is also the venue for some fantastic festivals throughout the year. One of the biggest highlights is Chinese New Year, particularly the celebration’s Twilight Parade when there are dragon floats, lanterns, music, projections and illuminations.
