9 Small Streets (De 9 Straatjes) Shopping (Self Guided), Amsterdam

Embark on a fun-filled shopping trip to the Grachtengordel district in the Old City. In 2013, Condé Nast Traveler caught on to what many in the city have known for years, and that is that the 9 Small Streets area of Amsterdam offers a unique shopping experience. The prestigious travel magazine gave it a special mention, and no wonder when you see what is waiting for you.

The Nine Streets encompasses nine picturesque shopping streets that between them host more than 200 stores. They include some of the best fashion shops in the city as well as bookshops and design shops. Fashionistas in particular have much to look forward to with a visit to the area. There are racks filled with the latest fashions from some of the hottest up-and-coming Dutch designers around as well as jewelry pieces and lots of vintage clothing. This is the place to be to find an attention-grabbing outfit or to experiment with a bold new look.

Highlights of this part of the city include Wolvenstraat for men's fashions and Hartenstraat for women. There are plenty of expensive luxury items on sale as well as bargains for those who are more conscious of their budget. Along the way, stop in a trendy bar or café and spoil yourself with some fine dining in one of the restaurants.
How it works: A discovery walk features a route using which you can explore a popular city neighborhood on your own. This walk, along with other self-guided walks in over 1,500 cities, can be found on the app "911±¬ÁÏÍø: Walks in 1K+ Cities" which can be downloaded from Apple App Store or Google Play Store to your mobile phone or tablet. The app's built-in GPS navigation functions allow following this walk route with ease. The app works both online and offline, so no data plan is needed when traveling abroad.
