I have a bit of a crush on Portugal. I keep coming back for more. Over the past three years, I鈥檝e digital nomad-ed (no-made?) my way around聽Porto,聽Madeira聽and聽Ericeira聽鈥� to the point that this year I finally downloaded Duolingo and started learning Portuguese. But nomads gotta roam, so instead of returning to old flames, I decided to explore pastures new: Lagos 鈥� a small city in the western half of the Algarve, on Portugal鈥檚 south coast.

The Algarve is known for its cataplana, piri-piri chicken and (naturally, given its location) fresh fish and seafood. But it鈥檚 also home to a thriving wine culture that鈥檚 long been known locally but is finally starting to gain international recognition

The easiest way to get to Lagos (or indeed anywhere in Portugal鈥檚 Algarve region) is to fly into Faro airport and then rent a car or take the bus. At the time of writing,聽easyJet,聽Transavia聽and聽Ryanair fly direct to Faro.聽Lagos itself is extremely walkable, but we found it helpful to have a聽rental car聽to explore the rest of the Algarve. ......
